AAUW CEO Gloria L. Blackwell:
In Conversation with Esther Ngumbi, PhD

Join us for an inspiring conversation with Dr. Esther Ngumbi—author, researcher, educator, mentor, speaker and champion for change around the issues of hunger, gender, education, youth activism, agriculture, sustainability and public service. A 2007-08 AAUW International Fellow, she is currently an assistant professor of entomology and African-American studies at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign.

The recipient of multiple national and international awards, Dr. Ngumbi received three U.S. patents for her research. In 2012, she launched Spring Break Kenya, an organization that mobilizes university students for public service and reached more than 5,000 people. That same year, she and her parents co-founded The Dr. Ndumi Faulu Academy to help children in Kenya get access to quality education. In 2014, she founded Oyeska Greens, an agriculture-focused start-up that empowers farmers on the Kenyan Coast.

Dr. Ngumbi believes everyone has the right to a dignified life. She has dedicated her passion, intellect, heart and resources to bringing about sustainable change in her community and is a powerful role model for women and girls.
